How to Play The Ministry of Silly Walks
Start by using tape, cones, or any visible markers to create two parallel lines on the ground about ten feet apart. Choose one player to be the leader, and have all other players line up shoulder-to-shoulder behind one of the lines. The leader stands on the opposite line, facing the group.
The goal for the players is to cross the space between the two lines using the silliest, most ridiculous “walk” they can come up with. The leader’s job is to announce a category for the walks and then judge which player performed it the best.
Categories can be almost anything — for example:
-
“Jumping”
-
“A day at the zoo”
-
“Walking like you just ate spicy ramen noodles”
Encourage creativity and over-the-top movement.
Once the leader announces the category, give players about 10 seconds to think of their walk. Then, all players begin moving toward the opposite line using their chosen silly walk.
After everyone has crossed the line, the leader chooses the winner of the round — the player who best interpreted the category or was the most entertaining. That player earns one point and becomes the leader for the next round.
Before starting the game, decide how many points are needed to win. For larger groups, a smaller target (3–5 points) works best. Smaller groups may want to play longer by setting a higher point total.
