Offering of the Ducks

To the victor goes the…duckies.

Overview:

  • # of Participants: 6+
  • Where to Play: Indoors/Outdoors
  • Age of Participants: Elementary School/Middle School / High School
  • Approximate Time to Play: 20 to 45 minutes
  • Materials: 1 rubber duck (or similar trophy) per person

How to Play:

All you need for this game is a weird little object for each person in your group. We used rubber duckies from the dollar store, but any small, easily identifiable trophy will work.

Set up a table at the front of your space and stand behind it. Announce to the group that it is the offering table, and each round you must bring one offering forward or be eliminated.

Each round starts with the remaining players in some sort of starting area with their eyes closed. We had them stand in the center of the space, eyes closed. You will then hide one trophy for each remaining player. “Hide” the trophies so they are pretty easy to find, because this game is more about rushing to get to the trophies fastest, rather than having to search intensely for them. When your trophies are all hidden, countdown from three and shout “Present your offering!” The players will open their eyes and scramble to find the trophies. Once they have one, they’ll run to the offering table, fall to one knee, and hold up their little object with both hands, bowing their head. The last person to present their offering is out. For each following round, you just need to hide one less trophy since there is one less player.

When there’s three people left, announce the grand finale round. For the grand finale, hide all of the ducks, and whoever brings back a majority wins! If I’ve got 20 ducks, I’ll hide all 20 and say that whoever is the first to present seven ducks at once is the ultimate champion. This makes the last round feel special.

Tips:

To make sure that the people that are out don’t get bored, Have them help you hide the ducks. Just make sure that the ducks are still being hidden in a good spot, otherwise you’ll have a few people searching forever.

Once the group gets the hang of it, throw in some twists! Try hiding all of the ducks in one big pile or placing them right next to the players. Sometimes we even hold onto a duck and then throw it into the space after the round has started!
