Romans 15:4 tells us that all of Scripture was written to teach us and give us endurance, encouragement and hope. If the entire Bible is important, why do so many Christians ignore the Old Testament? How can we fully understand Jesus if we ignore the stories that point to Him?

Throughout this series, Echoes of Faith, we’ll discover how the entire Bible tells one connected story that points to Jesus. Starting in the Book of Genesis, students will learn that they were created in the image of God and how Jesus came as the perfect reflection of God on our behalf.

The Fall of Adam marks the beginning of humanity’s fractured relationship with God. Adam’s rebellion brought sin, suffering, and death into the world, leaving all of humanity in need of restoration. Since the Fall, humanity has struggled to live according to God’s perfect design, continually choosing our own way over His. Yet God did not abandon His creation. From the very beginning God began His plan to reverse the effects of sin, ultimately culminating in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. 

In this lesson, students will explore how the fall reveals humanity’s need for a Savior and how Jesus, the new Adam, fulfills God’s promise to restore creation and make all things new. 

In this lesson, students will discover that the Bible is not a collection of separate stories, but one unified story of rescue and restoration. Students will explore the powerful parallels between Noah’s Ark and the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Just as God provided the Ark to save Noah and his family from judgement, God sent Jesus to rescue and save humanity.

But the story doesn’t end there. Students will learn that one day, Jesus will return to restore all of creation, bring an end to sin, death, and suffering, and make all things new, just as He did during the time of Noah.

From the beginning, God created humanity to live in relationship with Him and with one another. However, sin and pride have fractured that unity, leading to division between God and people. Through the story of the Tower of Babel, students will discover how pride separates us, but through the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, God begins restoring unity under one identity in Christ. Students will learn that true unity is not found by elevating ourselves, but by being united with Christ and His people so that the world may see and know God’s love.

Whether we admit it or not, many of us struggle with fear of the future and the unknown. For some of us, our natural response is often to either avoid our responsibilities or try to control every part of our lives. However, the Bible tells us a different story: we are called to have faith and trust in God’s plan for our future. 

This lesson will explore the story of Abraham and how God uses his life as an example of what it means to remain faithful, even when we cannot see the whole picture.

What would you do if God asked you to trust Him with something you couldn’t understand? Abraham faced that exact question when God asked him to sacrifice Isaac, the very son God had promised him. 

In this lesson, we’ll explore what it means to trust God when His plan doesn’t makes sense, how trials can strengthen our faith, and how Abraham’s story points forward to the greatest promise God ever kept: Jesus Christ.

God equips all of us to do the work that is needed within His Kingdom and our world. As we discern what those gifts are, we are better able to understand what we are capable of doing and begin to understand our life’s purpose. As Christians, we refer to this as our calling and answering that calling helps us put our faith into action.

Often, others can see our gifts more easily than we can because they have already benefitted from them or have seen the positive effect we can have on others when we begin to live out our calling. When we walk closer to God and begin to answer the needs of those around us, we begin to walk the path God has in store for us. Understanding the good seeds God has planted within us is the first step in helping those seeds grow into plants that can be used to do God’s work in our world.

All of us have struggled to make big decisions in our life. That’s because we often rely less on God and more on ourselves. When our ways are aligned with His way, God wants us to succeed. All too often, we interpret difficulty as an absence of God instead of an invitation from God.

This session focuses on the challenge of putting this mindset into action. Even Moses found himself crippled by self doubt and needed God to remind him that he was not alone. If we wish to respond to God’s work that is set before us, we need to develop the right focus and direction.
