Why Use A Game-Driven Lesson?
Most youth leaders either struggle to make their meetings enjoyable, or worse, struggle to teach lessons that actually connect with their members. The result? Hours of effort gets put into content that is forgotten the next day. Instead of thriving in a Christ-centered community, young people are left with a surface-level understanding of God.
The key is using the games to help you teach your lesson.
Teaching through experiential learning is the best way to get your message to stick. Between the game you play, engaging questions, and the usage of videos and other external media, your youth will remember your teaching and come back for more!
What's within the eight pages?
The Game
The Game, called Pan Bang, requires students to rapidly get into a group with a specified number of people. Inevitably, this leads to a chaotic frenzy of pulling people in, and shoving others away. It’s a fun game on it’s own, but the real value comes from the hidden message…
The Breakdown
The Breakdown allows students to debrief their experience they had while playing Pan Bang. While the game encouraged playing selfishly, and pushing others away, you get an opportunity to say that your group won’t be that way. Instead, you’re going to look for chances to build each other up, and invite each other in.
Every discussion question, with the answer your group is likely to give written underneath it, is provided cleanly. The curriculum is framed in a way that a seasoned professional or a complete novice can lead with confidence.
The Scripture
The Scripture is at the core of the meeting. Every moment is rooted in Biblical truth, shared in an easy-to-understand way.
1 Corinthians 12:25-27 says that we all belong to one body, therefore we ought to care for each other.
The Movie Clip
The Movie Clip, a 6-minute excerpt from Coach Carter, grabs students’ attention, and allows them a real-life example of the principles from this lesson in practice.
The God Triangle
The God Triangle is a thirty-second physical illustration that breaks the monotony that talking for too long can create. Two volunteers join you at the front and physically demonstrate how growing closer to God naturally brings us closer to one another.
It’s a simple, memorable way to help students visualize and remember an important truth from your lesson.
The Closing Prayer
The Closing Prayer wraps the whole meeting up. It’s written out word-for-word, and allows your group to bring everything you’ve learned to God, readying you to go in peace, to love and serve the Lord.
